Powering What’s Next: Edovo + CEWD Bring Energy Industry Fundamentals to Incarcerated Learners

Energy is everywhere. It lights our homes, charges our phones, cools our spaces, and fuels our lives. Yet most of us don’t think twice about it, until it’s gone.
But behind every flick of a switch and hum of a device lies an entire world of innovation, engineering, and skilled work that keeps America running. And that world is changing faster than ever.
Until recently, the idea of drawing power from cornfields, sunbeams, or wind gusts might’ve sounded futuristic. Today, it’s just… reality. Electric vehicles plug in in addition to just filling up. Solar farms are sprouting in places once lined with coal. The energy industry is in the middle of a transformation, and it needs people ready to power what’s next.
That’s why Edovo has teamed up with the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) to bring Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF) 2.0 to incarcerated learners nationwide.
Meet EIF 2.0: The Gateway to Energy Careers
EIF 2.0 is a free, 120-hour digital course that introduces learners to the science, systems, and opportunities behind the energy industry. Built with insight from energy professionals who live and breathe this work, from drone pilots to power engineers, it offers real-world exercises and lesson plans that make the complex feel accessible.
By completing the program, students earn an industry-recognized credential, a major boost when applying for internships or jobs. And the skills they gain don’t just apply to one role. The course covers everything from generation and transmission to sustainability, business operations, and innovation.
Why It Matters
More than 8.5 million people in the U.S. already work in energy, and that number is growing. Whether it’s building infrastructure for electric vehicles, managing renewable grids, or protecting energy reliability and safety, there’s never been a better (or more important) time to enter the field.
Through this partnership, Edovo and CEWD are making sure the next generation of energy professionals is as skilled and forward-thinking as the industry itself. For justice-impacted learners, EIF 2.0 offers not just a course, but a career path.
Because powering the future starts with empowering people.
