IMAGINE SOMETHING THAT HELPS INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS SEE WHAT LIFE BEYOND THEIR SENTENCE CAN BE. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT AN APP CALLED EDOVO EMPOWERS PEOPLE TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES? YES. WE EXIST BECAUSE DENYING EDUCATION NEVER MADE SENSE. NOW WE’VE PROVEN THAT TRANSFORMATION IS POSSIBLE WHEN OPPORTUNITY IS AT PEOPLE’S FINGERTIPS.

The Problem We're Solving

PREPARING TOMORROW’S NEIGHBORS

Nearly everyone who is incarcerated (97%) will one day return to our communities. Yet historically, fewer than 20% had any type of access to education while incarcerated.

Edovo changes that.

We built a free learning platform for incarcerated people that gives them the space to reflect, build skills, and make personal progress long before release. By expanding access to secure, digital education inside correctional facilities, we help individuals prepare for reentry in ways that strengthen both their futures and the communities they return to.

EDUCATION AT THE SCALE THE SYSTEM DEMANDS

On any given day, nearly 2 million people are incarcerated in the United States. Roughly one-third are held in local jails, often awaiting trial. The remaining two-thirds are in state and federal prisons, serving long-term sentences.

Despite different settings and lengths of stay, one thing is consistent: access to meaningful education is limited, fragmented, or nonexistent.

Today, Edovo reaches more than 1.1 million incarcerated people, over 60% of the incarcerated population in the U.S.

Phil is sentenced to 3 years in prison, a substance-related offense. He never completed high school and like many people entering the system, unsure of what comes next or what options are available to him.
While serving his sentence, Phil receives access to a secure tablet. Out of curiosity, he logs into Edovo.

What he finds: a large library of materials across education, job skills, personal growth, and recovery. For the first time in a long while, he has choices.
Phil starts with academic content, working toward rebuilding his high school education. He completes basic math courses, progress that gets noticed.

His case manager sees the completions in Edovo and assigns more advanced math, along with a substance-use recovery course designed to support long-term change.

As Phil spends more time on the platform, learning becomes part of his routine. Some days he’s focused on coursework; others, his recovery, and sometimes he unwinds by watching chess videos he finds on Edovo. It’s still learning, but on his terms.
“Showing rehabilitation through programming is particularly important. I just attached a bunch of Edovo transcripts to a case where my client was a little light on substance abuse treatment and was able to fill that gap.”
David, Deputy Public Defender
With every completed course, Phil earns a certificate. His mom downloads them from Edovo’s transcript portal. She talks about them during phone calls and brings them up during visits. That recognition matters. It gives Phil momentum.

Phil is granted parole and released. After leaving custody, he finishes his GED and enrolls in college to pursue software development, an interest he discovered while incarcerated.

After his release, Phil requests access to Edovo Go, allowing him to continue his education on the outside. He uses it to pick up where he left off, access his certificates and transcript, and keep building toward his goals as he transitions into college and life after incarceration.
“Edovo helped me prepare for a new way of living. I plan to use Edovo for personal growth and to access my certificates.”

After 12 years of incarceration, Joel isn’t just counting the days, he’s making them count. In this powerful reflection, he opens up about the impact of missing his children’s lives, his drive to be a better man, and the role Edovo has played in his personal growth and reentry preparation.

"The community doesn’t want us to come out better criminals—that we went in and sat there, stagnant. They want us to come out with some sort of education that’s going to better ourselves."

Janessa shares what it means to find courage while incarcerated: courage to tell her story, face her fears, and do justice to herself by speaking her truth. She reflects on how opening up isn’t just personal healing, but a way to give others permission to do the same.

Being flawed creates a deeper, meaningful impact for people. It’s more relatable. I just want to thank her for being her authentic self, because that’s what I want to be.”

Facility Partners

SUPPORTING CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS ACROSS 47 STATES

Edovo operates in more than 1,400 jails and prisons across 47 states, each with its own policies, priorities, and goals. No two agencies work the same way, and education inside facilities reflects that reality.

Across the country, agency staff are leading learning efforts in their facilities, guiding participation, organizing programs, and aligning education with local and state initiatives. Edovo is built to support this work, partnering with agencies and adapting to how each system operates so staff can strengthen programming and maximize the impact of education for the people in their care.

"Edovo allows us to extend high-quality programming beyond the limits of classroom space and staffing, ensuring individuals have consistent access to learning across our system. It also gives people the ability to take ownership of their own growth by engaging in programming at their own pace. When paired with our in-person services, it strengthens staff capacity and reinforces personal responsibility, which is essential to meaningful rehabilitation."

Dawn-Renee Smith
Deputy Director, Nebraska Department of Correctional Services

“These folks are still part of our community. They’re going to come out and live alongside us again. So why wouldn’t we give them the ability to work on themselves while they’re here?

If they can build skills, learn to manage their anger, or find a way to connect with their family, that helps everyone. That helps the whole community.”

Financials

In 2025, every hour of education was delivered for just  15 cents.
Edovo is built to last. In 2025, nearly all of our operating cost were covered through program revenue, meaning the platform, content, and access learners rely on every day are sustained by the strength of the model itself. Our small, highly skilled team delivers millions of hours of education at extraordinary efficiency, keeping overhead low and impact high. Every dollar is stretched and every hour matters.

THANK YOU
Edovo’s impact is not the work of one platform or one organization. It is the result of learners choosing growth, correctional staff showing up every day, educators creating meaningful content, and partners investing in access instead of exclusion. Together, we are proving that education inside facilities is not only possible, it’s powerful.

Thank you for standing with us, and with the millions of people working toward a better future.
